XP re-install fails ("...setup cannot copy file *. dl_)

Hi All,

I had a perfectly working PC with XP SP2....For various reasons, I need to
do a re-install/repair of the existing build....

When I attempted several times, I keep getting this error during
setup....cannot copy file *.dl_...When I checked the file does exist on the
CD, and also on the I386 sub-dir that I created before as a Plan "B".

I had also ran Memtest86 for the last 36 hours, and NO glitches....

As I previously mentioed, I was able to copy the I386 off the CD onto the
hardisk with no problem...

What else could it be in precluding a successful XP install on a previously
working XP box...?

thx in advance

36 hours of memory tester.....If youre running microsoft memory
tester,advanced
mode,1 complete pass will/would find a problem if one existed...As for
repair,
repair is a waste of time,if it doesnt fix problem(s),you need to reinstall
xp,
repair takes as long as new install except for updates & few other minor
items.
Why not boot to xp cd,select install, new copy, delete the partition, create
one,then
xp formats & installs auto...

Andrew,

I ran the MemTest86 version, the MS version gave me an error ("..Program is
too big...?) this was the windiag.exe, does this error provide any clue...?

thx
