XP RD Cannot access TS error 1004 license issue

I have a win2k machine and a new XP machine on the same
LAN, accessing a win2k term server over internet through
checkpoint firewall. The win2k machine is able to log
onto term server fine, as it has been for many months.
The new XP machine was not able to log on from start with
error message "The client could not establish a
connection with the remote computer". After many attempts
at troubleshooting, eventually deleted the client license
key out of XP machine registry, and was able to log on
that one time. After logging off, was not able to gain
access again with same error - and now, deleting the
license kay and retrying is only creating duplicate
licenses with same name (and same macine ID) but problem
still exists. Not getting any help from admin at the TS
side (not our company). Thanks!

There might be a black hole router between your client and the TS,
which blocks packets above a certain size. This prevents the
transfer of the permanent TS CAL to the client (on first
connection, the client gets a temporary license, on second
connection, it gets a permanent license).

If this is the problem, you have to change the MTU size. Check the
Terminal Services FAQ, there are 2 items about this under
"Connectivity"
