XP RAW prevents PS/CS from recognizing files

Been using the XP RAW viewer download for initial screening for a couple of months. Nice tool! Last few days, I'd have an error show up that simply pressing the "ignore" let me continue. Suddenly, PhotoShop CS no longer recognizes any of my Canon .cr2 RAW files. I've done a complete reinstall of PS to no avail. Re-downloaded the raw viewer (but no idea of how to uninstall the original). BTW, the files themselves are not corrupted, since I can get them on my other machine. Do I have to reinstall XP? Oy!
Help appreciated.
