I want to run xppro x64 on my laptop but microsoft does not include the
drivers in the trial version download. I get to the windows xp pro screen but
I cant connect to the internet because I dont have any drivers installed for
my ethernet. How can I then try xp pro x64 to see what it is like if when it
boots up I cant even get on the internet to get the drivers I need?

On another machine...go the the website of your laptop's manufacturer and
see if they have the 64bit drivers
for your eithernet chip. If they do...just download them and burn to a cd.

If no 64bit drivers are avail...then you probably should go with the 32bit
version of XP

64-bit drivers are supplied by the hardware manufacturers. If the 64-bit
drivers didn't come along with your hardware, your laptop might not
support the 64-bit OS. Check your laptop's manual first and check the
hardware manufacturer's home page/s in order to find suitable 64-bit
drivers.

My laptop supports the 64-bit . It is a AMD Turionx64 x2

The next step has been posted already, see the quote below.

If there are no 64-bit drivers available you're running out of luck.
Stick with your 32-bit Windows in that case.

It may be 64-bit capable but if the manufacturer has not also written XP Pro
x64 drivers for the lappy then you are out of luck. Just having a 64-bit
cpu is insufficient for running a 64-bit OS on a particular computer. You
need 64-bit drivers as well.

There is a newsgroup for 64-bit computing issues at
microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general. I suggest you will get much better
answers there. This ng is largely devoted to 32-bit editions of XP. The
folks at ...64bit.general know this stuff inside and out.

Please explain how anyone could possible provide all drivers for all
hardware that exists. How many dozens of DVDs did you want to burn to
do the install so that all drivers for all hardware would be provided?
Why would you want to waste the disk space to install all those
drivers for hardware that you do not have? There is no OS that
includes every driver for every piece of hardware that has existed,
does exist, or may exist.

It is YOUR job to compile the downloads or go get them for whatever
hardware that you have. If the installation media that came with your
hardware doesn't have the appropriate drivers than YOU go get them.
That's YOUR job as the OS installer.
I get to the windows xp pro screen but
I cant connect to the internet because I dont have any drivers

Is the NIC on the motherboard? If so, when might YOU decide to go to
the motherboard maker's web site to go get the chipset drivers for
whatever motherboard model that you have?
How can I then try xp pro x64 to see what it is like if when it
boots up I cant even get on the internet to get the drivers I need?

Can't tell you since you never bothered to identify your actual
hardware, like what motherboard brand and model that you have, if the
NIC is on the motherboard or is a daughtercard.

Yes, continue to not identify your hardware and continue to receive
vague and unfocused responses because no one but you knows what you
have.

Start your own thread. Don't hijack.

Since you mention RealTek, is the sound on the motherboard or a
daughtercard (i.e., card in a slot)? If the sound is on the
motherboard, the chipset drivers for the motherboard need to include
those drivers. From where did you download the drivers? The drivers
from the chip manufacturer might not work due to how the chipset got
*implemented* on the motherboard (and why you use the motherboard
maker's driver set or try the chipset maker's driver set). Without
any details (motherboard make & model), no one can give you specific
answers to a vaguely described setup.

In your own new post to start a discussion on your own problem, be
sure to provide the details regarding your hardware. You might want
to first go visit the web site for the computer maker (if you bought a
prebuilt) or the motherboard (if you bought the parts and did a custom
build).

A regular on the microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general newsgroup is savvy
on the x64 realteck drivers. Again, I recommend that you visit that ng.
