Do you see a blue screen or what? If you see a blue screen write the error
codes here. It will make us to help you easier.

actually it is like an endless loop - brings up different boot options
(safe mode, etc) - doesnt matter which one i select it will then go and try
to start XP and then end up back again at the boot options. The only
difference between the options is if i choose the start windows normally - it
does bring up a blue screen that says autochk program not found - skipping
autocheck then it flashes something quickly and restarts again.

yeh, i've seen posting like these before. Norton SystemWorks must be a bg
piece of crap for laptops......

Since you only have restore disks and not a windows cd, i think you will
need to get into the command prompt. Get on another pc and make some startup
disks. There are two types, one type for ntfs and another for msdos. With
these you can initiate the recovery console by initiating c:\I386\winnt32.exe
/cmdcon :then reboot.

Or you can download a free ware called barts pe and create a bootable cd
with it. Once you can boot into the laptop update the posting to let us
know....
