XP Pro to XP Pro RDP when remote machine is not logged in?

Howdy all,

I've just been trying to figure out why I can't always connect to a box I
have running some scripts from my laptop.

Both machines are running XP Pro, and a lot of the time I can connect.
However, it seems that I can't connect if I'm (or presumably another) user is
also not already logged onto my remote box. This is frustrating, as I hope to
be able to just leave this machine - I'm heading overseas for quite a while
shortly - and if it gets its power cut off I would hope that it would both
run scheduled scripts run or at least allow me to remotely connect once it
was powered up again.

Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Christo

No, sorry, I might not have been very clear:
I have a laptop (WinXP Pro), which I'm trying to connect to my server, also
running WinXP Pro. I also am quite certain that this isn't a network problem
because I can, e.g., ping from one to the other.

I was actually thinling that it may be a Power setting issue. ALthough I
see it more on laptops, I have seen it on desktops and servers too.

Check your server's power setting (Display Properties > Screen Saver > Power
Scheme) and make sure that "Turn off hard disks:" is set to "Never" AND
"System standby:" is also set to "Never"..

Hmmm, I've had a poke around but the hard disk is already set to "never turn
off", and there's no standby option as far as I can tell. I'm going to try
and have a more indepth paly with it, see if I can figure out when the
problem occurs more exactly :)

Cheers,
Christo
