Joey Coconut

problems problems problems....
had some virus/spyware/etc problems
did some fixes with
registry fixers, virus removals, etc.

XP pro.
current issues.
can't drag & drop
can't cut & paste
can't burn cd/dvds
USB attachments not recognized
minimized programs wont show up on taskbar.
cant access system restore
task manager/process - has no user listed (it used too!)

i need to get at least the drag/drop
and or ability to burn cd/dvd to off load
files so i can re-install the OS.

been thru many different sites looking for answers
none seem to help, most make things worse.

someone suggested dcomfig settings were off.
went there, and when i click on the first thing,
the utility closes.

any help greatly appreciated.

Try booting from a free Live Linux CD such as Knoppix
<http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html>
Then use either a USB storage device or the Network to offload / backup
your files.

Simply remove the hard disk, attach it to another XP system, and copy off
your files. Be sure that you do get all of them - keep in mind that some
apps, such as many email and address book clients store their data files in
hidden folders.

If you don't have access to another system for backup, just get another hard
disk and treat the original as your backup. In my area, 500 gig disks are
just over $100, so this isn't a huge investment. Take out the old drive
and install to the new one. When the install is complete and the system
functions properly, simply attach the old drive and copy your data into
place.

Don't forget to install the motherboard drivers immediately after the basic
WIndows install.
