XP Pro on new hard drive

I currently have two hardrives C - 80Gb - Master and F -
40Gb Slave ( D = DVD drive and E = CDRW drive) Windows XP
home is currently installed on C Drive. What I want to do
is back up all my data to F drive. Replace the 80gb drive
with a 160gb drive set this to master. Install XP pro
onto this drive. Transfer my data from F drive to the new
160gb drive. Replace the 40gb drive with the old 80gb
drive set this to slave and reformat it.

My questions are will doing this work or is there a
better way to achieve this. What will happen to the drive
letters.

If the drive letters do get changed you can always change
them back thru Disk Management. You can change any drive
letter but the System drive.
