XP Pro - How to disable CD autorun/autoplay ?

O

old bear

Nice day to everybody. Apologies for my poor english.
I'am trying to find a way to disable the CD autorun in XPPRO+SP1.
It was so easy with Win98 ...
Searching with Google I've found :
- MS KB "Q319287" - It's for Win2K - Tried to apply w/o luck
- Doug Knox website (quoting) :
1) Click Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC
2) Go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System.
3) Locate the "entry" for Turn autoplay off and modify it as you desire
Tried, but that "entry" is not present in my system ...
Many thanks in advance and Greetings from Italy.

Hi old bear,

There is an easy way. Right-click on the cd drive in Windows Explorer,
choose properties, autoplay tab and select the type of files and the
action you want the computer to perform.

You can also download tweakUI, which is part of Windows XP Power Toys,
it has a heading for autoplay where you can configure it the way you
want it. (My Computer > Autoplay)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Good luck

easiest way to ensure autoplay is off is to use TweakUI.

Under My Computer | AutoPlay | Drives, simply uncheck the drive(s) you
want to stop autoplaying. Also, the next section, Types, lets you turn it
off for all CD/DVD type drives.
