XP Pro activation

So I have 2 completely legit XP products keys, one on each computer. There
are stickers on one case then on the bottom of my lap top with the Windows XO
logo, product keys, bar codes, perfectly legit stickers. I recently had to
reformat the desktop, and using my product recovery CD that came with the
computer, which by the way was preinstalled with this version of windows, I
reinstalled windows. The product key activation came up and i put in the 25
character code and nothing works. I called product support about 10 times, on
the phone with perhaps 15 different people, have record of my calling so many
times and NO one can activate it for me. Leaving me to install XP home which
i also had, which came with my first computer. I called IBM because they're
the makers of the other 2 computers and they can't give me another code,
everyone on the phone with Microsoft told me to buy another version. Here I
am with 3 computers, 2 of which are fine, the other isn't because WINDOWS
WON'T ACTIVATE. Now, I’m under the impression that windows SHOULD BE GIVEN
WITH ALL COMPUTERS THAT HAVE THE OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLED ON THEM.

Unfortunately, I have the balls to sit here and tell whom ever wishes to
read this that I've acquired, yes, acquired, NOT purchased Windows XP Pro
Corporate edition which you all know it CD and Product key-less, why, because
I'm not about to go buy a copy of xp pro for $200 when I ALREADY HAVE A
PRODUCT KEY THAT IS SUPPOSE TO WORK FOR THE PRODUCT. Thanks to windows and or
Microsoft’s attempts to "stop the copying and infringing of their software"
I’ve been forced to go about other means of getting windows until someone
HELPS me alleviate the problem.

I know PLENTY of people with this corporate version and I will never stop
using it until Microsoft gets their money driven heads outs of holes I don’t
wish to mention, and actually HELP ME FIX MY PROBLEM. And I don’t mean
telling me to buy a copy when I already HAVE everything I need to reinstall,
and not telling me to pay $35 for some non-American to try and help.

I don’t see what the problem is Microsoft. You think you’re making such a
great product, and that you have decent services, but at the same time you’re
loosing your customers because you’re too stupid to HELP.

Perhaps with what I’ve said, I’ll get some help: then again, maybe I won’t.

You could have more problems that just activation - the only time I've
seen XP not activate by Phone is when it's been a corrupt install.

Are you SURE the person/organization you acquired the computers from had
the right to transfer the license to use Windows to you? I suspect there
are some situations where companies sell old computers containing
operating systems they weren't entitled to transfer to subsequent owners.

So now, because of a few hackers/software pirates, we all have to deal
with this re-activation crap every time a part goes bad in our
computers, wga crap, calls to M$ to beg them for help, We have to
research where we buy our computers to make sure the company is 100%
legitimate just so M$ can have their two dollars? And, even if we
purchase a computer from a respectable establishment that happens to
'acquire' some 'counterfeit' copies of XP, we have to eat that bill and
re-purchase something we already paid for - just so M$ doesn't lose a
little 'potential revenue'..........

I want the luxury of having an actual choice of operating systems when I
buy my next computer. M$ sees to it that I won't. M$ sets the price I'll
pay. M$ is the worst case scenario of the proverbial fox guarding the
henhouse.

I'll pay my $ to M$ for now, but if and when there's a choice of O/S's,
M$ will not be mine.

**** you Bill.

You already have a choice, you can switch right now, for free even.

The choice is a Marketing decision of the vendor you purchase the
computer from.

MAC's have been available for decades, you could have picked one.

Unix machines have been available for decades, you could have picked
one.

Linux machines have almost reached the ease of Windows XP, you can order
computers with Linux installed.

The choice has always been yours, you just have to be Man enough to make
it and then not blame others if it's a mistake, the same with your
choice for picking Windows.

Bullshit. For any PC vendor today, there is NO CHOICE but MicroShaft!
Unless you're a PC vendor who really wants to go out of business.
MAC's have been available for decades, you could have picked one.

Yeah, sure. I want a MAC like I want to be an artsy fartsy fruity guy.
Unix machines have been available for decades, you could have picked
one.

I now have two UNIX boxes that do their jobs and are fun to play with. I
did in fact install and service Sun UNIX/Solaris boxes for most of the
eighties and nineties so UNIX is kewl. Problem is UNIX won't run most of
the software that's out there today because all the software that's out
there today is designed specifically to run only under Winblows.
Linux machines have almost reached the ease of Windows XP, you can order
computers with Linux installed.

Ditto. Linux is fun but like most non-tekkies, my Wife and kids can't
deal with it. Be realistic. If Linux was competition for Billy boy, he
would simply buy it, at any cost, and avoid the competition..
The choice has always been yours, you just have to be Man enough to make
it and then not blame others if it's a mistake, the same with your

I'll say it again, MicroShaft is the worst case scenario of the fox
guarding the hen house. There is ZERO competition in the O/S industry.

Bill, be a Man and allow some competition.

Wait till you have to purchase a support contract for HPUX or AIX or a
contract directly from RedHat.

There is plenty of competition, and more every day, but people are doing
it with Free software and not wanting to pay in most cases. If people
paid for Fedora Core 5, even $20, to download and install on any number
of THEIR OWN computers, it would give a lot of development revenue to
RH, but they are doing it for no cost to downloader - other than being
always in development.
Bill, be a Man and allow some competition.

Why would you expect any profitable, well doing company, to increase
competition when the market can drive that competition.

If Windows was as bad as you say, people would not use it.

As Homer Simpson would say, "You're living in a fantasy world."

You do work for M$, right?

I'm done.

Up until about a year ago most consumers had NO CHOICE due to Microsoft's
predatory and illegal monopolistic licencing practices. (Unless you want a
MAC but they are very non-mainstream.....)

That's an outright falsehood. There have been several alternative
operating systems, in addition to MacOS, for many years.

O/S2? Linux? Unix? NeXT? MAC O/S?!?! Stiff competition there.

Quite right - but NOT generally available in retail outlets.

True. They're usually free for the downloading (except MacOS, of course.)
