Hi,
A co-worker of mine is trying to setup a peer-to-peer network with two
Windows XP PC's and a few Win98 PC's. He has all of the PC's in the same
workgroup. On both XP PC's, he can go to My Network Places | View Workgroup
computers, and he can see every PC on the network (including the other XP
PC).
Both XP PC's have "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" enabled
but they have "Simple File Sharing" disabled. They each have one shared
folder, which grants share level access to the "Everyone" group and grants
NTFS "Full Control" to the "Everyone" group as well. On both of these XP
PC's, I have gone into "Local Security Settings" and made sure that the right
to "Access this computer from the network" is granted to "Everyone", and that
"Deny access from the network" is not denied to the "Guest" account.
From one of the XP PC's, I can go to "View Workgroup Computers" and
double-click on the other XP PC to see the shared folder on that PC. If I
double-click on the shared folder, I have no probelm accessing any file or
folder within that shared folder.
From the other XP PC, I can still go into "View Workgroup Computers" and see
the other one. If I double-click on the other one, however, I get a dialog
box asking me for a username and password. I would like everyone to be able
to get right into this share without logging on. I was just wondering if
there are any other settings I can check to see why I am asked for username
and password on this PC and not on the other one.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul
