XP not recognizing CD/DVD media!

N

Nick Marques

I have a laptop with a DVD-R/CDRW Combo drive running a CLEAN installation
of Windows XP SP2 Final. In Windows Explorer, before I put any disc into the
drive, it is correctly listed as "DVD-RAM Drive (F:)". As soon as I put any
disc in, whether its a CDR with data or blank, DVD, anything... it changes
to "CD Drive" and Windows can't see any data on the disc(s). It seems like a
hardware problem, but the drive works FINE outside of XP. I can put my XP CD
in, and boot to it... in fact I just got done with a clean install using
that drive.

I would think it is the drive, but I have a Firewire CD Burner that I also
use, and that works fine. Additionally, I have another slim CDRW/DVD-ROM
that I swapped this drive for... and that drive does the same thing! I'm
stumped...

Any ideas? I haven't installed any burning software or anything that
emulates drives..
