Xp not recognizing dvd recordable media

I have a plextor DVD/CD PX-716A Burner. When I put a blank DVD+R media in to
the recorder. XP recognized the media as a cd-r. I can not use the drag and
drop or send to options. I also can not use media player to create a data
disc. I can use nero and other programs to access the dvd+r for recording.
please Help. It does work fine with a cdr

XP does not recognize DVD+R or DVD+RW media (hence it shows something else,
usually DVD-ROM but can show CD-R or anything else. In any event DVDs
cannot be recorded by XP's native CD recording utility. As you note third
party utilities work without problem.
