XP Media ed. came preinstalled....

Upon taking my Acer Aspire 5040 laptop back to factory settings I am
unable to get Windows to run, (muchless anything else obviously) and here is
the scenerio:

Fatal Error An error has been encountered that prevents setup from
continuing.
windows is unable to start because the registry could not be updated....

System Setup Log- (C:\WINDOWS\setuperr.log)
Error:
Setup encountered an error while trying to upgrade the Internet Explorer.

Fatal Error:

Any insight is greatly appreciated or direction to a good resource...

Since you used Acer's proprietary factory restore method, the best place
to ask for help is from Acer technical support.
