XP Media Center, sfc cannot find files!

Trying to claen up viruses, malware, etc. off of a Compaq Presario desktop.
There is an I386 folder in the C drive & I have also created the recovery
media on one DL DVD, but when trying to run, it will get to a point, asking
for the CD & not find it!
I have changed the registry key pointing to SourcePath to C:\, C:\I386\,
E:\, about every possible combination I could think of, but it still keeps
asking for the CD!

You likely will have to get your hands on actual true installation media
(Media Center? 2 CDs.)

It's not entirely clear what it is you are trying to do, but it sounds like
you have created a recovery DVD from a hidden partition and are attempting to
reinstall Windows with the recovery disk while Windows is running. It doesn't
work that way. You must set the boot order to boot from the DVD drive in
order to do this.

Also, this is a destructive install; make sure you have copied all of your
data to outside media before proceding, or you'll lose it.

Additionally, if you are trying to recover the machine because of viruses or
whatever, Why don't you use the recovery partition directly? That's what it's
for. Follow the instructions that came with the computer.

Gee Shenan, my copy of MCE came on 3 disks.

It did not come with install media, just a program to create it, either on
15 CDs, 2 DVD or 1 DL DVD, which is the option I chose.
The I386 folder is on the DVD & I changed the source path in the registry to
look for it there.

I booted from the DVD & did the non-distructive restore.

Was the original install done with Service Pack 2? If you have updated to
SP3, you may have to uninstall SP3 before performing the restore.

On my quest to create a Media Center CD slipstreamed with SP3...
