XP Logon problem

When trying to logon normally to Windows XP SP3, I get the Windows screen and
the logon blue squares running in the box and then the running squares stop,
there is a minor screen flicker, and then the squares run continuous forever
and forever and nothing will stop the blues squares from running in the
display box. This happened with now changes in my system.

And, all attempts to get SYSTEM RESTORE to restore to an earlier RESTORE
POINT failed when in SAFE MODE.

The only thing that seems to work is to enable all items in the startup
screen in MSCONFIG and shut down and restart my PC.

I have no idea and cannot find any help in MS Knowledge Base for this
problem of a continuous logon looping and failure of SYSTEM RESTORE to
perform.

This might seem a silly question but, have you tries choosing "Last known good" from
the same options menu that "Safe Mode" is in?

Yep, done all the usual in Safe Mode, all the MSCONFIG changes, all the saved
RESTORE POINTS, and all the choices in F8 while trying to boot up. Cannot
find out why the boot does not continue but stops at the XP logon screen when
the little squares run across the display box, hesitates briefly but does not
complete the boot process and just continues to run the little squares in the
box and NEVER completes the logon.

Thanks for the comment. Cannot find what is causing the logon to not
complete.
