This is an update of a previous question I had yesterday:

I will be getting a Gateway laptop with XP Home. It will be a turion 64
-Here is the laptop:

-currently I have a wired router but I will be changing htat. but Im not
sure about the PCI wireless yet because I don't know much about them... Can
someone explain to me their capabilities? I have a laptop I will need to send
signal to (wirelessly) and a ps2 I will send internet connection to (wired).
I want the laptop to be able to access the files on my computer though. If
any one else has any ideas on how I can do this, it would be greatly
appreciateed (if you will be giving me product references, please try to use
futureshop.ca)

Thanks so VERY much in advance! :D

Hi,

I suppose the graphics card (Radeon x300) has inbuilt Integrated TV Output
support up to 1024x768 resolution. However this might have been disabled by
the manufacturer. I saw the I/O ports available in the laptop and S-video
port ( s-video is the port that you can use to connect the laptop to your
T.V) in the laptop is missing. However you can double check with Future Shop
can confirm. So one of your option is probably out.

Coming to the second option, the laptop is inbuilt with a Wireless card. So
the laptop has the ability to connect wirelessly to your Desktop (i.e only if
your Desktop already has a Wireless card to communicate wirelessly to the
Laptop). There are two ways of doing this:

i) Without the Wireless Router.
ii) With the Wireless Router.

i) Without the Wireless Router: Once you create a wireless connection in the
laptop and the Desktop, you can find the Desktop sending signals of its
network on the laptop (or vice versa). Once the connection is detected you
need to just select the connection and click on the connection button.

more detailed information on how to do this can be found out in this website:
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/

ii) With the Router: If you have Wireless router, the advantage is that you
will have a good signal strength and you wouldnt have the problems of
intermittent connection. And also you can have a Wires connection too.

This is what I am aware of. Please do refer the weblink that I specified, it
has good information about Wireless Networks. That should give a good idea on
how to do this.

I would replace your wired only router with a wireless router that also have 4
"wired" ports. You can then keep your desktop wired into the router and the
router will also provide the wireless signal for the laptop. This way, you
will have a "backup" connection to check out the router when you have a
wireless network problem.
