says "System Requirements ATA 66/100/133 Bus "

would that work ???

well I dont care for the new HD would work slow ~33MB/s ..
my OS main HD's is using SCSI .. and this would only be used as

How big a drive? It should work at ATA33 speeds, but might be bigger
than your BIOS can handle. Most ATA33 systems had a limit of 32gb, the
rest topped out at 127gb.

Don't know, but if the Maxtor does not work with ATA33 it will default to PIO, which will make ATA33 look fast.

Mike .. why do you say it would fall back to PIO mode ?!
shouldn't fall to ATA33 ?!!! is this a Maxtor thing ?

thanks

It won't fall down into PIO mode.. like all modern drives, it can
scale back to ATA33 fine, there are no unique Maxtor-issues in this
regard. The only real issue since you don't mind ATA33, is whether
the motherboard BIOS supports the drive capacity.

It might run at ATA33 as you say, even though Maxtor does not say so. If DMA does not work, e.g. in DOS or Win95, (or sometimes with any other OS) it will run in PIO mode. If you use a Promise PCI card (which emulates SCSI) it will always run with DMA.
