xp installation compatibility issues with NTCOMPAT.INF

this im finding pretty confusing because its on the xp
disk yet its incompatible with windows xp? i dont know
sounds as confused as me. heres the error message...

Setup information file F:\i386\COMPDATA\NTCOMPAT.INF is
invalid.

btw im upgrading from 2000 to xp and my copy of 2000...no
wait my whole 40 gig hdd has no file on it called
ntcompat.inf
