XP Home SP1 Installation

I'm trying to install XP Home on a parts computer just to test some software
on it. The hard drive has been formatted. Setup starts off from the CD,
press F6 is displayed, than this error occurs:

An unexpected error (0) occurred at line 1768 in
d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c. Press any key to continue.

At this point the installation is dead. It won't respond to the "any key"
and I have to reboot. I have been unable to get past this point. I tried
XP Pro just to see and the same problem occured.

The machine has some Athlon CPU although I'm not sure what Mhz. I've swaped
out the video card, cdrom, modem, etc. Any idea what is happening on line
1768 or what I can do to get around this? Thanks.
