I'm having a problem installing win xp home. it gets to
the setup screen then says FATAL ERROR, one of the
components windows needs to continue could not be
installed. A component file does not match the
verification information present in the comp maifest.

Then it reboots

Can any one help a very stressed man!

Thanks

Check the Windows XP CD carefully for any marks or scratches. A
damaged or diry CD will often produce this type of error. Clean the
CD with warm water and a soft lint-free cloth and try it again.

Does the error message provide any name for the problem component, or
any other information that might be a hint as to what it might be?

There is no hint to what it might be. Thought it might
have been hardware so i have unplugged everything. I even
tried a different harddrive. The cd does look a little
scratched but nothing I would normally worry about. Could
it be that.
