XP Home file explorer question..........

Brian

One of my XP home boxes, for some reason, stopped refreshing when opening a folder or deleting files
from a folder, or deleting a folder etc. I have to constantly hit F5 to manually refresh the file
explorer. I've looked but don't see any settings to refresh automatically like it used to and like
my other machines do. Where's the setting hiding ?????

Thanks
Brian

Try here:
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Shell Hardware Detection
Return this service to Automatic.

Also, do not use Folder view in Windows Explorer.

Do you have the latest XP Service Pack installed in the box?

Nope, Don't need it........ I have SP1 with all the patches. There's been no updates installed in
quite some time now. This refresh problem started more recently.
See this KB page:

"Incorrect Contents Are Displayed in Windows Explorer"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q314939

Older versions of Windows were known to have this problem, when there was a
disc in the CD-ROM drive. I don´t know if that is also the case with XP.

No discs in either drive........ My auto insert notification is working properly on the DVD drives,
it's just the folders on the HD that won't refresh.........
