XP-Home Edition Luna theme doesn't appear

After crashing several times upon adding additional ram, the sony vaio fx-370
works fine BUT has suddenly switched over to classic view. Initially it
switched back to the XP-smooth look by just clicking on "use visual styles on
windows and buttons" under "custom" settings in the performance options once
I adjuted performance settings under "system properties" but ONLY after I
removed the additional ram and rebooted with single ram followed by the
inserting the 2nd ram again.
Now after waking up from hibernation the computer asked me if I wanted to
delete the old saved data (prior to booting) which I did, otherwise it
woulnd't boot. Since then the computer is not reverting to the xp-original
theme even though I have trouble shooted using all the options on this site.
My computer does have the luna files in the right folder under resources in
windows folder.
1. All it does is:- turns grey for a while (apparently making an attempt to
switch to the original theme) but then nothing happens and the . The "THEMES"
option has been repeatedly started in the services.msc but this does not
help. Downloading a tweak to prevent classic theme from loading also did not
help. Did try the sfc.exe but unfortunately once the computer prompts to
insert XP-home edition CD ROM it said it was a wrong CD and crashed. (The
reason my operating system is in 2-3 recovery discs provided by Sony and I
put in another windows xp cd that I own, since I am not sure if the computer
will be able to read from the CDs provided by SONY)

If I select custum option and select "use visual styles on windows and
buttons" the check mark is unchecked after the computer tries to apply these
settings. On the contrary when I select "adjust for best appearance" the
check mark does remain clicked after hitting apply but the appearance still
remains that of the sharp edges and no smooth round corners. Could it be that
my original theme has been altered and all I need is to copy the luna from
another XP onto my computer and apply these settings?

Please help me out since I am unsure as what to do in this situation and
don't want to create a situation where my system becomes non-functional.

I am using XP-home edition provided by Sony which has over the course of
time been upgraded and kept up to date via microsoft site.

Hi everybody, sorry about wasting your time, I just did what I had
recommended at the end of my post, i.e. copying the resources folder from
another xp professional computer ( I got it off kelleys-korner-xp.com web
site in a zip file) and overwriting my original folder seems to have done the
trick. I am a happy camper again! If anybody deos benefit from my experience
please drop in a post and I will be really pleased.
Regards

Hi guys, its me again! Unfortunately after a couple of reboots I am back to
the same old situation and the classic theme seems not to leave me at all and
repeating what I did in the past does not seem to fix it. Any ideas or clues?
I have no intention of re-installing the entire OS and all the software
again. Please guide me with the very best of suggestions.

Right-click on "My Computer" and select Properties. Click on
the advanced tab and click on Settings under Performance. Make sure
there is a check beside "Use visual styles on Windows and buttons".

Also:

Go to Start > Run and type: SERVICES.MSC , and hit enter.
Scroll down to "Themes", right-click on it and select Properties.
Then select startup type as "Automatic" and click on "Start".

Thanks for the prompt response. Done that already and performed it once again
after reading your post. No luck
