When I try to create a system back up using ntbackup.exe I get a message
just before it is completed that it encountered a proplem and has to shut
down. On the details of error I get appname ntbackup.exe version
5.1.2600.0. On the bottom of message popup it says offset 00099d40. Can you
help me fix this so I can create a backup. Already had to do a complete
reinstall I do not want to go thru that again

So here is a question for you.......if the system fails and you cannot run
XP how do you propose to restore that backup you made with XP's backup
program????..........you have to do a complete reinstall!!!

Might I suggest Acronis True Image..yes it costs money but its worth it.
with Acronis you can Image your HD as well as create an emergency startup CD
that does not require XP.
With the startup CD you can restore your Image..and be up and running in
minutes
Look into it by doing a google.

Your suggestion below is decent, although it ignores what the OP asked
for. And your statement above is untrue. The XP backup utility does
indeed provide for a full installation recovery after a catastrophic
disk failure. So, your question is moot and consists of misinformation.
Don't post if you're not sure of what you're seeing. You only needed
to do a short read of the backup doc to know this. Stop dispensing
ignorance, please.

I guess I can buy software to get a backup thats for sure. But that still
doesn't fix the problem. I would really like to get this fixed so I can have
regular downloads to keep my comp. backed up and up to date. There has to be
a way for this to be repaired or I would think so. But thx for the name of a
good software product to get a backup until I find the solution to this
problem
