XP Home and Media Center edition

Are XP Home and Media Center the same in terms of being designed for home use
and not have the networking components of XP Pro?

Thanks

Media Center (MC) edition can be added to a domain, unlike XP home. However
I'm not certain what differences there are in the interactions between XP and
Win servers compared to MC and win Servers or any other networking.

Anyone?

Basically no. :)

MCE 2005 has, Remote Desktop, Multi-processor support, Automated System
Recovery, Dynamic Disk Support, Internet Information Services/Personal Web
Server, Encrypting File System, File-level access control. All available in
XP Pro. All available in Media Center Edition 2005. None available in XP
Home.

Essentially MCE is Windows XP Professional with the ability to conveniently
join a domain traded for the ability to use Media Center Extenders.

For future reference Media Center Questions are probably best directed to

Not exactly.

Media Center Edition is a superset of XP Professional. It has everything in
Professional (plus its extra media features) *except* the ability to join a
domain. All other networking features are there.

By the way, XP Home also has has networking features, and works perfectly
well in the typical peer-to-peer home network.

No, it can't. Otherwise it's a superset of XP Pro

With the exception of domain join and cached credentials, Media Center
edition is closer to Pro than home.

Media Center has Remote Desktop, IIS, EFS etc. Even the number of
simulataneous connections over SMB is the same as Windows XP Pro.

MCE can be added to a domain, but only during the initial OS installation.
Doing so will break the ability to use media center extenders.
