Initially, it would hang at the 39 minute timeframe of
installing Windows phase ... this was solved by doing a
SHIFT+F10 to get the Command prompt while the error
display was on the background. Then under the \system32
directory I had to rename the \CatRoot2 to \CatOld
directory. Then I re-started ... and did several re-starts
and always during the Finalizing Installation phase it
crawls when Saving Settings ... from the 8 minutes I
stated about an hour ago it now states 7 minutes. I know
this is not right but, don't know what else to do ... and
most likely if it ever finishes the installation I know
there will be further problems later on. The reason why I
installed XP Pro on XP Home was that my PC had become
relatively slow (operating system). We'll see ... I am
happy I still operate Win 98 on my other PC. I have a
network at home and my kid runs XP Home and has not had
problems.

I am having the same exact problem that Gus below is
having. No matter how many times I shut down, it always
reboots continuing in setup mode, whether I have the
Windows XP CD in the drive or not. If I can get into Safe
mode I can do a system restore to a date before I tried
the reinstall. Any suggestions?
