XP freezes on image preview

Hi,
Ive been having a problem lately with xp going into a
unrecoverable freeze, all input devices have no effect,
audio stops and the screen freezes. This occurs when I am
viewing images through xp's built in image preview
program. (ammediatly or after about a minute). It also
ocurs if I leave the computer on for a long time.
I am woudnering if anyone knows what may cause this. It
seems a strange activity for a virus and im preety sure no
external access is causing this as the programs I allow
through the firewall are all trusted.

Open control-panel,ADM.,event viewer.You'll probably find system events/error
relating to the problem,click on the url for any event/error/warning,this open
Help/Support in xp,usually with answers.

In the run box type or past

"regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll" (without quotes

Click OK.

To Re-enable The Image and Fax Viewe
In the run box type or paste ""regsvr32 shimgvw.dll"" (without quotes)
Click OK.
