xp freezes during setup

I am trying to reinstall xp on a sata hard drive. The computer was
working fine for several months untill one day windows stopped booting
up all the way. I think my son may have accidentally infected the
computer with a virus, after his stopped working[the one I built] he
used mine[a dell] and the same thing happened. I reformatted my
computer[the dell] and did a clean install and now it works fine.
When I tried to do the same on the other[the one I built] I ran into
problems. I boot from the xp disk and then I push f6 so that I can
load the "3rd party" drivers.[i have to do this because I am only
using one sata drive]. When I get to "windows xp home edition setup
[blue screen white letters] examining 152626 mb disk 0 at id 0 on bus
0 on viasraid..." the computer freezes. some specs:
antec 400w power supply
asus a7v600 mobo [bios updated to a7v61006.awd]-a7v61007.awd didn't
work
seagate barracuda 7200.7 sata hard drive 160gb
1 stick 512mb pc3200 ram
bfg 5700 ultra video card
on board lan and audio
any help is appreciated. I built this thing myself and am learning
slowly but surely...

I downloaded some boot disks from seagate to wipe the drive clean then
did the install and it worked. Please disregard previous post.
