Long shot I know but connections from a Sco Unix machine which were visible
to a W98 machine are no long available when tried to an XP box. Its XP Pro,
SP2, with simple file sharing enabled. Same lack of connection with Windows
firewall on and off.

I am scratching around in the dark and would appreciate any help whatsoever!

Check the network setup on your 98 machine. Possibly it includes
3rd party software you have forgotten about, such as NFS client or
Samba, which your XP box does not have.

Will check this but fairly certain that there are no special add-ins. Its
the printer share which is causing problems. I am just wondering if XP wants
the Sco machine to log in maybe ... other XP machines can see the machine
and printer share with no difficulty. Anyway I'll check the config later
today and post back if I find either a solution or anything else
Appreciate the response

Problem solved . The Sco machine had a very old version of Samba... once
updated everything works as expected
