XP Dual Boot with the same OS

I have an older P4 system in a TT Xaser tower case with plenty of room and
drive bays. It's time to reinstall and reformat the OS, as it's been at least
3 years accumulation of junk.

Can I do a fresh install of XP on a blank formatted HD already installed,
leaving the existing OS alone for awhile. After all appears ok, I could
remove the original XP, and perhaps do a fresh install of XP. Then I'd have 2
good copies of XP on different HD's, and if one gets corrupted, etc., I
simply run the other. Anyone done this? Seems too simple for when a
format/reinstall is required. Thanks ALL!

You would of course have to reinstall every program that you needed....each
time you installed XP....what a waste of time.
But since you are willing to start from scratch how about this.....
Redo your present installation...format the whole drive....reinstall
everything.
Then "clone that new install onto the 2nd HD....................safe
it...........put it away.
Now when you feel that your XP installation is too full of junk....remove
the drive....install the cloned drive...your up and running.
repeat as many times as you need changing drives each time.
