xp doesn't use my modem correctly

Hi i have had this problem for a few months. I can't update any programs, or
use programs like windows messenger and outlook express. Programs like kazza
lite also don't work. Eventhough i have these internet problems i can still
use internet explorer fine. I reformated my computer and reinstalled xp pro
again but the problem remains. At the moment i have 2 operating systems
installed (win98 & xp pro) on my computer and the win 98 is working fine. I
can use windows messenger, kazza and outlook express fine eventhough that xp
does not allow me.

Is the problem that the modem isn't supported by xp?
If so, y did it use to work?
And y did it go wrong all of a sudden?

Please reply.

My computer is a P4 2.8ghz 512ram and my modem is a: D-link DFM-562IS HSFi
PCI modem

Since you can browse okay then the problem is not with your modem
because obviously it is providing an okay Internet connection. You
never did bother to mention what were you "Internet problems". Pick one
communications program, like OE, and discuss what problems you have with
it (but post into an OE newsgroup).

Also, you didn't mention whether Windows XP Pro was an upgrade (so you
dragged over a lot of trash, including incompatible device drivers) or a
fresh install. You also never mentioned installing the modem driver
that specifically states that it supports Windows XP. That modem model
is not distributed in the USA so their web site won't provide a link to
a download driver, the UK site doesn't list that model to select from
under their Support page, and Canada's support site sucks, so you'll
probably have to mention in which country you obtained the modem, or
just go look yourself at the approprioat D-Link web site to ensure you
are using a Windows XP compliant modem driver. However, it sounds like
you have a software problem rather than a hardware problem.
