XP doesnt show correct CPU speed

I have an AMD Athlon XP2400 tht runs at 2GHz with 512mb ddr. Windows is only
showing that it runs slightly under 1Ghz. I just installed windows and
everything is rediculously slow. Is it running at the shown speed? If so how
do I get it to run correctly. If its just a glitch and its running at the
right speed, why is everything so slow. It feels like my old 800mhz with 256
ran faster. Can anyone give me any advice?

I'm curious-- where does Windows show processor speed?

Deviant: I'm no expert but I run an AMD Athlon xp1800+ processor and in my
BIOS there is a place to set the processor speed.
in my case its 100/100, 100/133, and 133/133 Those are my min and max in my
case and my BIOS is an AMI BIOS.
My setting for this is under something called CPU PnP
Suggest you look and see if you've something similar in your BIOS.
in Control Panel -> System the low speed reports my speed as 1.15Ghz and the
high as 1.53Ghz.
and if I'm not at the high the processor is not reported as the "right type"
says AMD Athlon but no "xp1800+" with it.
Hope that helps, if not you might try posting your MB type etc... and I'm
sure there's more knowledgeable folk out here that might know.
I just know my MB.
Best Regards, Dallas...

Access your bios and set processor speed. Consult your motherboard manual or
manufacturers web site for details.

System Properties. Press WinKey+Pause/Break, processor speed will be
displayed bottom right.

Hmmm... tried that under each of the 7 tabs and didn't see it. What am I
doing wrong?

Absoluteing haven't a clue, but your entire post hasn't really been much
help.

It's really refreshing to see this level of candor from a so-called expert--
admitting to all of us that you have so such limited reading comprehension
skill ;-)

OK, My apology. I should have left out the part after the completely mangled
spelling of absolutely. *-( (I don't know where that came from.) It was a
complete lapse of reading comprehension.
I really don't know why you don't see the processor speed on the System
Properties General tab. System Properties should open to this tab when you
press WinKey+Pause/Break. It does take few seconds to display the Computer
info, but I haven't seen a system that didn't display this info.
See the screen capture in the link below.
BTW, do you think the "so such limited reading comprehension skill" was
better than "such limited reading comprehension skills"? Yes, I did see
the smiley, just messing with you and hope we all get better with this
interaction thing.
