XP Deleted my files? and lost more space?

B

Ben_Radiophonic

Hi,
I was unable to acess my computer, even through safe mode.
I ran the CHKDSK -R from the original XP installation CD
When that had finished, I went to My Documents and all the files in there
were gone. Also the only Hard Drive had lost 120GB space with all the files
remaining the same. I really need my work back.
I'm trying Recover My Files but it seems hopeless at the moment

Any help appriciated,
Ben

Sorry Ben, no one likes bad news but your hard drive is showing all the
classic signs of failure.
Chkdsk makes temp files of fragments in the drive root folder, if that does
any good. It's where the extra space went.

They are not in a folder, they are in the C drive itself.
They may be hidden, you will have to go to folder options (control panel) and then to the view tab
and check the "show hidden files" option. They will have names like ABC00001.chk. You will need
to open them with Notepad, but don't expect much.
