xp blue screen - unmountable_boot_volume

Hi
I am hoping someone can give me some further ideas to try about the
following.
This afternoon i came back to my pc to find that it had blue screened
with an unmountable_boot_volume error 0xc0000032. Now i know that this
is a filesystem error and usually a chkdsk /r fixes it - however in my
case i cannot even reach this stage. Details as follows:

No new hardware or software has been installed on the pc.
It is possible we had a slight power outage today which caused the
crash.
On trying to boot to safemode i get the unmountable boot volume error.
Therefore i booted from my win xp dvd in order to get to the recovery
console. However as soon as it says that windows is starting up it
immediately blue screens and i never get the recovery console option
up.
I have taken my bootable hard drive out of the equation and unhooked it
from the motherboard and used a second hdd, which does not have windows
installed on it and usually acts as a slave device, as the master -
still the same blue screen appeared when booting from the cd.
I have also reseated the hdd cables plus reseated my memory stick.

Has anyone got any other ideas to try or any other idea as to what can
be causing the issue. I have had no problems before this and this pc
has now been built for almost 3 years.

thank you

Maybe this will help..
Solution: If the second parameter (XXxXXXXXX) of the Stop error is
0xC0000032, then the file system is damaged. You will need to restart the
computer to the Recovery Console and then use the chkdsk /r command to
repair the file system. When that's done, check the drive to locate the
cause of the file system damage. To use the Recovery Console, see the
sidebar. At the Recovery Console command prompt, change to the drive where
Windows is installed, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER. At the command
prompt, type exit and then press ENTER. The computer will restart. If this
doesn't fix the problem, repeat it and use the fixboot command in step 5
instead of the chkdsk /r command
