New XP user; before I changed the updates facility to inform but not D/L, an
updated version of wnaspi32.dll slipped in, making Nero inaccessible - v.
5.5*

Ahead nero has an update for 5, but keeps it hidden in an ureachable ftp
page.
Has anyone here suffered the Auto affliction and found a way to make Nero
work?
TIA any clues.

Why don't you check its file properties. "wnaspi32.dll" is neither a
Windows file nor another Microsoft file. See also "DLL Help"
http://support.microsoft.com/dllhelp/Default.aspx

As most burning software, "Nero" installs its own version of that file.
Therefore, re-installing "Nero" should fix that problem.

Sounds like a good question for the Nero tech support, however, I doubt
that they still support that outdated software version.

On a backup Win98 SE box, I sfc'ed the wnaspi file, copied to floppy and
copied to XP c\sys32; similar trial with adaptec's file; early on, I
reinstalled nero 5.5.whatever. Thanks for the link to dll help; going there
now.

Why did you waste your time with that patchwork. The "wnaspi32.dll" file
that you retrieved from a Win98SE CD via SFC is an outdated third-party
file, to be more specific:

| Company: Adaptec
| Product Name: ASPI for WIN32 Manager for WIN95
| Product Version: 2, 0, 0, 0

Note that Adaptec's version of that file is *not* compatible with "Nero"
in general, no matter what version number in particular.
and copied to XP c\sys32;

C:\sys32 is no WinXP directory by default.
similar trial with adaptec's file; early on,

These "trials" have caused your problem rather than an automatic Windows
update.
I reinstalled nero 5.5.whatever. Thanks for the link to dll help; going
there now.

'welcome.
