XP Autologon

Yesterday, Darren Hook of Microsoft advised me to read
315231.KB.EN-US How to Enable Automatic Logon in Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;315231
which I duly did. Except that it says to edit the registry
entry data item DefaultUserName at key level
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVers
ion\Winlogon. Unfortunately there ain't no data item at
that level; what's below Winlogon is 4 folders.

Is Microsoft documentation always this inaccurate? I
think what I'm trying to do is edit the password for the
Administrator account so that it agrees with the password
I have reassigned it. The discrepancy between these 2
versions of what purportedly is the same thing is causing
my attempts to autologon to fail because XP seems to want
to mysteriously start the Administrator account, an
attempt which fails. Then I get a chance to log myself
on. XP may be buggy but it sure is hard to understand.

Ignore the 4 subfolders. Click on the Winlogon folder. Then look on the
right hand side of the registry editor.

Or follow control userpasswords2 method [last part of Q315231], the easiest one.
