Hi, I installed XP on a machine,(C driver) then,
I tried to install 2000 Server over XP. The XP did not allow to install NT
Server, as it is an older version. So I have to install NT directely from
start on the NT CD. The NT installation (on driver D) was successful, but
when I chose boot XP, I got the following error:

Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or
corrupt:

\Windows\System32\Config\SYSTEMd

Start options for Windows 2000, press F8

I tried to install XP over NT, however, the XP is on a mamufacture recover
CD, to install XP, it must format C driver. After recovered XP, I cannot
start NT.

What can I do? pls help!

Thanks for all reply.
I partitioned the disk to C, D, E, and XP (on C) and NT (on D) are installed
on different partition.

The problem is the XP Setup program is on a recover CD, which will only
install XP on C driver and will do format C first. If I install NT first,
the format C will erase the operate system selecte menu, and no way to start
NT. Somewhere I found long time ago, if you keep a cope of some files (which
will be changed after NT installation) after install XP and then after
installation of NT, just replace these changed files with original files, XP
and NT will both start without problem. However, I cannot remember which
files to keep. Should anyone know this, please help. Thanks!

The easiest solution is to start again! Install the OLDEST OS first and then
XP.

But ... he said XP will not install without formatting? Wouldn't
this be more a problem of improper partition setup? Or, he
didn't even mention patitioning at all, I don't think.

if the Op didn't partition at all, then he's DEFINITELY got to start over
again!
