XP and IE6 hangs upon connecting to internet

Help!
When i connect to the internet, the following happens:

1) i open IE6 and the homepage loads up ok. Then when i click on other
sites like hotmail, cnnsi.com etc, it then hangs. i can only close it via
task manager. after which it says the problem is from spyware and/or yahoo
task bar. i don;t know if its spyware related and i definitely don't have the
yahoo bar.

2) at the same time, XP also hangs. i can't select anything on the XP bar at
the bottom. the only thing i can do is to logoff from the task manager. after
which it sometimes hangs on the "save settings" screen. sometimes it gets
back to the logon screen ok and when i go through the whole process of
connecting to internet, the above problems occur. sometimes it takes 2
reboots before everything works.

I have a compaq presario ntebook b2800 running xp sp2. i have trend micro
pc-illin internet security 06 as well as the language bar.

Open Control Panel>Administrative Tolls>Event Viewer>Application.

Here you try to find out what exactly causing the problem.

I did look there after reading other posts, but i have no idea what they
mean. It appears the most common errors are:

1)
Fault bucket 126637809.

2)
Hanging application IEXPLORE.EXE, version 6.0.2900.2180, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

3)
Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module
urlmon.dll, version 6.0.2900.2870, fault address 0x0003a186.

Would appreciate any assistance!
