Well this is the thing ... I have desktop with 2k and laptop using wireless connection, both get IP adresses throught wireless router, using dhcp, that is connected to wan. The 2k computer does see laptop but Xp Pro does not see 2k, even if I went throught the network wizard, installed all the protocols, still it does not see anything. So if there are any hints please let me know :)

Do you have any software firewalls on either computer? Unless configured,
firewalls will interfere with file sharing.

Darn.

Please post ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in
Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.

Make sure the browser service is running on both computers. Control Panel -
Administrative Tools - Services. Verify that the Computer Browser service is
started.

Check to see if Simple File Sharing (Control Panel - Folder Options - View -
Advanced settings) is enabled or disabled on XP Pro computer.

If SFS is disabled, check the Local Security Policy (Control Panel -
Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

If you set the Local Security Policy to "Guest only", make sure that the Guest
account is enabled, and has a non-blank password. If "Classic", setup and use a
common account with identical password on both computers.

Does internet service work flawlessly for both computers?

Are you running both Client for Microsoft Networks, and File and Printer Sharing
for Microsoft Networks, on both computers?

Make sure NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NBT) is enabled on both computers.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318030&Product=winxp

Are there shares setup on both computers? Can each computer see its own shares?
Any firewalls ever installed on either computer?

From each computer:
1) Ping the other by name.
2) Ping the other by ip address.
3) Ping itself by name.
4) Ping itself by ip address.
5) Ping 127.0.0.1.
6) Ping 192.168.2.1 (router).
Report success / failure of each of 12 pings.

Provide history please. How long have you had this network setup? Did it ever
work? What did you have before the network was setup? Did it work? Be as
detailed and precise as possible.

Cheers,
Chuck
