[Xnews] Is auto-redialling possible?

H

When I use Xnews on a dialup line my ISP drops the connection after
two hours.

Is there a way to get Xnews to redial if it still has news articles
to download?

I am using XP Pro.

Think this will work,
http://list.opera.com/pipermail/opera-users/2002-November/014712.

I went to that page (text is copied below for convenience) and the
instructions worked well.

But I have one problem, I have three diallers and the auto-redial
uses the wrong one. How can I change the default dialler that gets
selected?

BTW for those of you who have not read the details, I am *not* using
the setting in Internet Options > Connections.

IE and Outlook come with their own dialer, which of course doesn't
work for any other program. But there is a method which will dial on
demand for every program, including IE and OE, so first thing we'll
do is disable the proprietary dialer:

(FIRST) Open your Start menu, then select Settings and open your
Control Panel. Under Internet Options > Connections, select "Never
dial a connection".

---

Now we enable the real dial on demand.

(SECOND) Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and
set the services

(1) Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
(2) Remote Access Connection Manager
(3) Telephony

to Automatic startup. Telephony is not required by some cable or DSL
providers, depending on how they implement the logon process, but it
can't hurt.

(THIRD) Then go to Network and Dial-up Connections. Under Advanced
in the menubar, select Dial-up Preferences.

(A) Under the Autodial tab, "Enable autodial by location",
check "New Location (the current location)".
(B) Uncheck "Disable autodial while I am logged on",
(C) "Always ask me before autodialing" if you don't want
that.

Then reboot, starting the services manually has been reported not to
work.

Start / Control Panel / Network Connections ... right click on the
connetion you want as default and select set as default.
