XL2000: "The System Is Dangerously Low on Resources"

S

This problem has manifested itself twice before on my
system.

Initially, the Excel 2000 App locked up, periodically
giving me the above error message. Then I was no longer
able to execute the Excel 2000 Application. I consulted
Microsoft Support Svces. and found the information
pertaining to the XLB file (Excel toolbar file).

Most recently, my application locked up without an error
message and I simply resolved the issue by renaming the
Excel.xlb file. The Excel App is working fine for now...

My question is why does this keep happening and what can I
do to prevent this from happening in the future? It is a
real inconvenience.

Something is causing your .XLB file to repeatedly become corrupted and
it's very hard to say what that it. When you delete an old version of the
..XLB file, Excel creates a brand new one as soon as it starts up. Do this,
then make any toolbar customizations you don't want to lose, close Excel and
back up the resulting XLB file. You could then restore this backup file at
periodic intervals before the current one becomes so corrupted that it
begins to cause problems.

Thanks Sim. I was baffled by this one but deleting that
file fixed it. For now at least. Thanks again. We were
about to reformat.
