x800xt or x1600xt - help!

I am currently looking at purchasing a new graphics card and these two have
caught my attention: -

Sapphire Radeon X1600XT 256mb GDDR3 PCI-E VGA/TVO/DVI-I
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/99221

Asus Radeon X800XT 2DHTV 256Mb PCI-E VIVO DVI
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/100178

Both are around £100 and according to Toms Hardware VGA Charts
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/graphics/charts.html the x800xt outperforms
the x1600xt so it should be a no-brainer but I am bothered that the x800xt
is older technology than the x1600xt. Would the x1600xt offer any advantage
over the x800? What new features does the x1600xt have over the x800?

TIA

I can't speak for the 1600, but I recently upgraded from an AIW X800XT AGP
to an AIW 1800XT PCI-E and the difference is remarkable. Not being a gamer,
I haven't tried it out on my most recent game (Far Cry...1st game I've
bought in 5 years), but the difference in video, DVD and TV is significant.
The 1000 series uses the Avivo technology that is supposed to enhance video
performance. Also, photos and everything in general seems sharper, pops out.

I don't know if the difference can be attributed to switching from AGP to
PCI-E, the 1000 series and Avivo or a combination, but I'm very satisfied
with the 1800 for my purposes, although the x800xt was a decent performer
too.

The x1600's have Shaders Model 3.0 which newer games like Tomb Raider
Legends and Oblivion, require for HDR. But even though it technically can
do it, the card is arguably too slow for it unless you run at low
resolutions.

Thanks for the replies - I am now thinking of spending a little bit more and
going for a X1800 GTO. Any got any good/bad experiences with this card?
