WXGA AGP Graphics Card

I am in the UK and have been given a wide screen monitor (1440x900
resolution which I understand is WXGA or possibly WXGA+). My current
graphics card, a Gforce MX 440 1289mb does not support this resolution. My
mobo takes an AGP 8x card and I need to find a cheapish one that will
support the new resolution. I am not a gamer so I don't need anything
super-duper, just a general purpose unit. I have searched the online
companies but they tend not to tell you what resolutions their cards will
support. Can anyone suggest a possible card please?

The Nvidia software may have a custom resolution option.

Page 145 here, shows a custom resolution dialog box. Now, support
for your card may have stopped with a certain release of Nvidia
drivers, so I cannot vouch for this being possible with your card.

Another tool, is the shareware Powerstrip, from entechtaiwan.com .
This is the release note, with a list of supported cards.

This picture, shows the Powerstrip control panel set to 800x480 resolution.

The Geforce MX440 is mentioned as running 1400x1050 in this thread.
It may take some experimentation to get what you want.

Thanks Paul. Reading your email made me look closer at the latest Nvidia
software that I had downloaded earlier today. It has a section marked
Custom Timing. I had assumed that it referred to refresh rates but looking
at it there is an option to enter your own vertical and horizontal
resolution figures. Unfortunately I cannot try this out until I am given
the monitor for my birthday on 4th December but I will post back here with
the result. Thanks again, without your input I would never have found it,
and if it doesn't work the Powerstrip you told me about looks like a winner.

I persuaded my wife to "lend" me the monitor this morning. Tried the
Custom Timing option in Nvidia Control Panel and it worked a treat. Thanks
again for pointing me in the right direction.
