Background Info-Laptop(clean install)-XP PRO SP

I was looking at my processes and I happened upon wuauclt.exe taking up 6mb
or memory-Not being familiar with it I looked up info on it and found out it
was this "Windows Update Automatic Update client (Wuauclt.exe)".

This was fairly surprising as I turn off Automatic Updates through the
Security Center. Of course it was just cruising throught the Services to
find Automatic Updates and setting it to manual to fix the issue.

My question is this. Why when I specifically told the Security Center in
Windows to turn off Automatic Updates, is this Service still being started up
automatically by default and sucking up system resources?

Turn off auto updates in system properties, you can also go to run,
type:services.msc In msc scroll down to auto update, double click,
in properties, set to manual from auto.
