Hi
Need your advice again.
A few days back I posted for advice about sister-in-law's xp computer which
is infected with the blaster worm, many thanks for replies. She has now got
Norton internet security to install when
got rid of worm.

I have not been to sister in law's as yet to try and remove the worm, but did
phone and
told her about the cure for stopping the countdown of
60secs//run//shutdown-a to allow internet
use for downloading needed fixes, however windows reported that the files
could not be found
even after seaching, and countdown continued and shut down comp.

My OS is win 95osr2b,I've downloaded and saved to floppies the microsoft
patch and the
removal tool from Symantec site, not to well up on comp tech so can I,use
these floppy disc's
to remove worm by going on her machine, insert floppy,my computer/a drive and
open the
removal tool, will this work ok ??.And then same with microsoft patch??.
If the above is ok which one to *install first* ,Symantec worm remover *or*
microsoft patch??
I do know about turning off restore program before doing the above.

Also I did notice that the Microsoft patch is zipped in download, will I need
tool like Winzip
or will it be a .exe file ?.
Hope that covers all I need to know if not please tell(in simple terms
please :)
Many thanks.

Both the MS Patch and the Antivirus removal tool will fit
on separate floppies and will do the job fine. You will
not need to use Winzip on the files. Just run them on the
infected machine and it should do all it needs to do from
there.

Hope this helps!

Hi Gary
Again thanks for reply.
Do you know what would be best to run first, symantec worm removal tool *OR*
the
microsoft patch,does it matter ??.
hope to go over to in-laws tonight and give it a go.
Cheers
