Wrong computer list ?

Alberto Brivio

Dear All,

I have two domains and I would like to know if the computer list I can see
from Active Directory Users And Computers is correct or not.

This because in the list of each domain I can find computers belonging to
other domain and viceversa.

Please, anyone could give me an help?

Kind Regards

Alberto,

Computer account objects can belong to one domain at a time. That is pretty
much it! What I might suggest that you do it to go to Joe's website ( I
love the opening page! ) and go to his free WIN32 C++ tools (
http://www.joeware.net/win32/index.html ) and take a look at oldcmp. This
is a really cool tool that you can use to look at your existing computer
account objects. You can - via this tool - determine which computer account
objects are still valid. As I am sure that you know, the computer account
objects have a special secure channel to the domain controller and they
update their 'secret' password every 30 days ( via netlogon ). This tool
will look at the age of the 'secret' password. If it is older than 30 days
( his tool will default to 90 days ) then you have a good idea that it is no
longer a valid computer account.

BTW - at what list are you looking? Do you have WINS installed in both
domains? Are the WINS servers from each domain replication partners? This
might be what you are seeing.....

HTH,

Cary
