Writing to CD-RW

M

Martin L

I am trying to overwrite (replace) existing files on a CD
with a new set of files. I keep getting the
message: "There is not enough free space on the CD to
write the files you have selected". This would be true if
I tried to add the new files, however, I am trying to
replace the old files with the new ones.

I suspect there is a simple answer to this, but this is
my first attempt at re-writing a CD and I am stuck.

Do you have a second CD drive? If not, copy the existing CD to your hard
drive, then copy (replace) the other stuff...then copy it to a new CD.

A CD is pretty much like a hard drive, it doesn't know better that the
deleted space is available until you defrag; which is not the case on a CD.

Copy the whole CDRW to your local disk, make changes there,
then reformat the CDRW (quick format ok) and write it back.

Also read the warning regarding CDRWs on Roxo message boards.
In short, never keep precious data only on CRDWs, they are unreliable
and can fail anytime.
