Write files to CD

Guest

Have XP SP2 and a TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E drive.

Was told I could use CD-R blank disks for this drive when I bought it if I
drag one file to the CD writer then write click to "write" it states that
"there is no disc in the drive"

Do I need CD+R disc's for this cd drive?

No, it would be best to obtain CD writing software.

Is your drive recognised in XP? Have you tried using a CD in it? Does
open automatically when you insert amusic CD or some other data CD?

It looks like the connection may not have been done properly. This
means you might have to open the case and check these physically and to
see they are properly connected in right in right way round!

Is it fairly new drive or has it been there since you bought the PC and
now it has gone kaput?

Yes, it is recognized fine.

It reads CD's fine but if I put in a music CD it does not automatically
play. I need to go to Explorer and click a track then plays fine

OK Put the Blank CD in the drive and open MyComputer.

Right Click on the CD-Drive and select Properties.
You will see a tab for AutoPlay - click it.
In the drop down list select Blank CD
Now "select an action to perform"
Select open Writeable CD folder using Windows Explorer (or Roxio because
you already have it)
Click Apply and OK

While there are DVD +R and DVD -R formats there is no such thing as CD +R.

Windows XP can not natively burn to DVD only to CD. If you installed third
party software with your DVD drive or you purchased the system with the DVD
writer installed it is likely that third party software is installed to
enable you to burn to DVD. This might have disabled XP's native CD burning
software. Some third party software doesn't get along with XP's native CD
writing software so disables it during setup. This is especially true for
packet writing software. If you have such software installed then just use
it.

If not open My Computer and right click the DVDRW drive icon. Select
Properties->Recording Tab and ensure the box is checked that says Enable
recording on this device. Reboot. That should give you XP's native CD
writing capabilities. But once again be advised that you will need third
party software to write to DVD. There are decent free DVD/CD writing
programs. One is found here http://www.cdburnerxp.se/

If you have no Recording Tab then the drive is not being recognized as a
recordable device. Try removing it through Control Panel->System
Properties->Hardware Tab->Device Manager button->expand DVD/CD Drives
section->right click drive and select "uninstall". Close down and reboot.
Windows should find it and reinstall drivers for it.

I have this same problem, however my drive is recognized as a recording
device.

It is a Dell and is a DVD-RW drive. It was working fine the last time I used
it, now it does not recognize blank cd's. It does recognize cd's with
material on them however.

Help Please.

Thank you.

I was had aproblem with my Sony dvd writer (only today) and so I decided to
come to the helpful experts and thanks to ANONYMOUS suggestion I was able to
get the DVD writer to work, I only had to do one more thing after in the CD
drive properties, I had to go to the Recoding Tab and tick the "enable CD
recording" box.
All is working great, I hope this is of help.
Thanks again Anonymous and to all others that a willing to share their
knowledge with those like me who are not that computer literate.
