would upgrade to Vista Ultimate allow me to use my scanner?

Hi All,

After many hours online with computer techs, it has been determined
that my Dell AIO964 will not scan with my version of Home Premium and
I will have to upgrade to Vista Ultimate for my printer / scanner to
work. Is this true? I don't want to outlay this money if my printer
scanner still will not work. Also, any scanners out there that work
with Vista Premium or Ultimate that is not too costly? Thanks for any
information!

No, upgrading will not make it work. If the drivers don't support one
version of Vista, it won't support another. They are all the same, just
different features. There are a lot of scanners that work with Vista, just
do some shopping and check the system requirements. Depending on your
budget, needs and such, there are a lot of options. But, most options out
there right now do support Vista with no issues.

I was told by the tech that Vista Premium does not support scanning,
but ultimate does. I did use drivers for Vista for my
printer,,printer worked, but will not scan.

I believe you have been misinformed. I have installed several All-in-ones for
customers using several versions of Vista and the scanners all work. The
responsibility for the drivers lies with the printer manufacturer (in this case
Dell since they use a rebadged printer), not with Microsoft. Someone else has
recommended you look for an AIO that has Vista drivers.
Good luck.

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and it supports scanning just fine....if
does not fax....that may have been what he meant otherwise, he gave you bad
information. BTW, I am using a Canon Pixima mp600 all in one.

Vista Home Premium does not include the Fax & Scan software (that XP did)...
perhaps that's what the tech was talking about.
I have Vista Home Premium, and a HP AIO 6110 printer/fax/scanner. I
purchased VueScan to operate the scanner. It costs $40 USD, but has a free
trial so you can see if it works with your scanner.
