working offline

hello
everytime i try to send/receive after opening windows mail, i get the
message that no connection is available, would i like to go offline, i then
click try again and it finds the connection and send/receive works.
subsequently, it works without the no connection available message.

my connection is always there so it seems there must be a setting causing
this problem. anyone got an idea?

thanks.

Check the connection settings in Tools, Options, Connection,
and in Tools, Accounts, select the account, Properties, Connection.
In the latter screen it is best not to override the default IE connection setting.

Thanks for your reply Gary. I've checked the settings and everything is fine
but the problem is still there. Can you suggest correct settings? I didn't
mention before but this problem wasn't always there, it suddenly occurred
about a week ago.

Tell me a bit more about your connection. Is it DSL or cable modem,
and is your PC hardwired to it with an ethernet cable, or is it wireless?
Since you didn't mention it, I'm also assuming you have no connection
issues when browsing various websites with Internet Explorer.

Go to Control Panel, Internet Options. You can also get there via
IE's Tools, Internet Options. Click on Connections. The settings below
Dial-up and VPN Settings should be grayed out, indicating Vista
knows you have a broadband connection (LAN).

If everything looks normal, but the problem remains, it needs to
be isolated to either your Internet connection or the mail server.
Do you have another mail server you can try? If not, get a free
account with Gmail and set it up for POP.
